How often should YOU train?

I often get asked by people who are starting a new training routine how frequently they should workout. This is a highly debated topic in the strength & conditoning world. In my experience it depends on a few factors that are specific to YOU.

  • Age
  • Activity Level
  • Goals (short & long-term)

Considering these factors allows us to come up with a training plan that will benefit you most in both the short and long-term. Patience is the name of the game when it comes to staying active. I have seen and been guilty of doing too much too fast. This results in overfatigue and eventually burnout if you're not careful. Generally speaking, strength training twice a week will yield results if you haven't done much in the past 6+ months. If you are a competitive athlete or have specific goals you will probably require a higher frequency and intensity.

Keep in mind that not every visit to the gym is intended to be balls to the wall for 90+ minutes. That's what really sets us apart at MAX Athletics. We train in waves of varying methods and intensity because we know how your body will respond to them. We understand when to push hard and when to pull back. Oftentimes less is more when it comes to strength training, which may seem like a rash statement coming from a personal trainer. But in 10+ years of training clients I guess I've learned a thing or 2.

Stay Strong,

Ben
